Laser TherapyTemple Terrace, FL

Dental Health Experts is proud to present our patients with the latest in dental technology – right here in our Temple Terrace, FL, office! Laser technology is used for a number of functions in dentistry, but the best way to understand its purpose is that it can make procedures more gentle, the recovery process faster, and it offers precision that is simply not possible by other methods.

The use of lasers preserves more healthy gum and bone tissue and virtually eliminates the need for shots, scalpels, and stitches during many types of surgery – our laser works painlessly using light energy and simultaneously cauterizes wounds to restrict bleeding or pain. By employing lasers in many of our dental procedures, we are finding treatments to be considerably more accurate and efficient, while the entire process is much more enjoyable for patients.

Gentle Gum Surgery

Lasers are increasingly being used in dental surgery. They provide excellent precision for procedures with soft tissue, which can be beneficial for a variety of different types of surgery! Advantages may include the following:

  • Less pain and bleeding after surgery
  • Faster recovery time
  • Decreased risk of scarring
  • Minimal or no need for sutures or stitches
  • Reduced chance of infection

As opposed to usual expectations after traditional gum surgery (pain, diet restrictions, bleeding, bruising), when using a laser, patients may only experience light bleeding and slight swelling or gum discoloration. In most cases, scarring does not occur with laser surgery.

Cold Sores & Canker Sores

Cold sores are small, painful blisters that most commonly appear on or around the lips. Caused by the herpes simplex virus (HSV-1), the most common symptoms of cold sores are pain, itching, and a burning sensation around the mouth.

Canker sores are small lesions that form on the soft tissue inside the mouth. The most prevalent symptom associated with these sores is pain, paired with the appearance of a round, white sore on the gum tissue.

While these sores typically heal on their own within a week, it’s understandable that you may seek a way to limit their duration or prevent them from occurring altogether! Lasers can be used for cold sores and canker sores to reduce the duration and intensity of the outbreak. If you feel a sore developing or one has already formed, make an appointment to visit our office for laser treatment. In only about five minutes, our laser will painlessly penetrate the tissue and kill the virus or bacteria at its source; this will immediately begin working to reduce the persistence of symptoms associated with the sore.

By visiting us for this treatment as soon as you begin noticing the sensations associated with a developing sore, you may be able to avoid the outbreak from ever happening in the first place!

For cold sores or canker sore, be aware of the following symptoms:

  • Tingling
  • Burning
  • Itching
  • Redness

Laser Biopsy

When a tissue biopsy is needed, lasers make this procedure quick and painless! Rather than requiring an anesthetic to relieve pain for cutting or using stitches, the laser is able to gently collect a small sample of tissue without causing bleeding, discomfort, or scars to develop.

Laser Surgery

Lasers are beneficial in many areas of dentistry, allowing for a greater level of comfort during many surgical procedures and ensuring more precise outcomes – along with the greater likelihood of speedy recovery. By using lasers, we can perform the following:

  • Contouring of the gum tissue
  • Frenectomies
  • Easy access of wisdom teeth or implants
  • Removal of fibromas on the lips (benign growths)

Gum Disease Therapy

Lasers serve as an incredible tool for the treatment of gum disease, allowing patients to limit their need for invasive surgery and shorten their recovery period. Using the laser, a narrow beam (about the width of three human hairs) penetrates the soft tissues to destroy bacteria that cause disease without harming healthy skin and cells.

The laser can kill disease infecting the gums and bone, allowing the mouth to recover, free of this harmful bacteria.
